What Should We Do With all these Hipsters?!

Socrates being compared to a hipster however, really gets my goat. "True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing." That statement from the man himself would eradicate him from the hipster category. The hipster by definition wears his "hipper than thou" mantra all over his bicycle, winter hat, tight pants, and pabst blue ribbon beer. Hipsters pride themselves on being knowledgeable on almost every subject, perhaps stemming from his diverse background and upbringing. In our society though aren't we all just searching for a label that will define us? A category, subculture, genre, that would encompass all of our quirks, ideologies, musical tastes, and fashion sense? Democracy and capitalism have robbed us of real feelings of spiritual and cultural acceptance. That is of course unless you are a doctor, lawyer, or other white collar success story. What we must remember though is that we are all part of this thing, we are not "beautiful unique snowflakes", and our problems or privileges do not define or set us apart. The more that we foster and develop an understanding for our brotherhood of man, the more we progress towards the eradication of labels and feelings of seniority, the closer we come to the truth, and therein the feelings of true love and compassion are able to exist.
